At the meeting, both delegations showed the purpose of expanding the knowledge of their respective realities and exploring possibilities of bilateral cooperation in multilateral settings.

Although the parties showed profound differences of positions and approaches on several of the substantive issues discussed, they kept a respectful treatment and the will to tackle any subject, with full respect for the sovereign equality, independence, non-interference in their respective internal affairs and the reciprocal nature.

The Cuban side reiterated its interest that the exchange will contribute to an effective, constructive and non-discriminatory treatment of the human rights issue, and the progress in the process of building better relations between the bloc and the Island.

The delegations for this second dialogue session were chaired by the EU Special Representative for Human Rights, Stavros Lambrinidis, and the Director General of Multilateral Affairs and International Law of Minrex, Pedro Nunez Mosquera.
