Holguin, Cuba: The president of Cuba, Miguel Díaz-Canel, urged in this city to work in tune with the current times that are today different, and to find solutions, Prensa Latina publishes.

"We will all feel better citizens, leaders and public servants," the president said after his call.

“They are essential attitudes in order to face the energy situation, caused by the continuing hostile policy of the United States Government”, the president added during a work visit to this territory to evaluate the measures taken to minimize the effects of shortage of fuel.

Díaz-Canel acknowledged that the province of Holguin - one of the most populous in Cuba, with more than one million inhabitants - is prepared to withstand any context, grow and emerge stronger.

During the meeting with national and local authorities, the head of state urged to work hard on agricultural tasks, housing construction, as well as in the vector campaign to prevent arbovirosis.

He also highlighted the initiatives carried out in the tourist pole of Holguin, where without affecting the services to clients, they substantially facilitate fuel savings.

Together with the first vice-president of the Councils of State and Ministers, Salvador Valdés, the president learned about the adjustments in the working hours of several centers, with a view to displacing consumption during peak hours, as well as the continuous work to achieve physical progress in works of the East-West transfer, agriculture, tourism and housing.

The president of the Provincial Assembly of the Popular Power (government) in Holguín, Julio César Estupiñán, explained, in addition, that they give prority to the planting of 1,664 hectares of land and the harvest of productions that substitute imports or are aimed at exportation, among rice, corn and coffee.

For his part, the director of the Electric Company of the province, Héctor Lugo, stressed that it has been possible to control the demand for energy below what was planned, a result that has been possible with the savings measures implemented in the state sector and the contribution of residential customers.

On Wednesday, Díaz-Canel visited three other provinces in the Cuban East, Guantanamo, Santiago de Cuba and Granma, where he completed a similar program.
