United Nations: Cuba's ties with its nationals abroad and, also in the United States, are strengthened today in numerous areas, despite the escalation of Washington, said Foreign Minister Bruno RodrÃguez, Prensa Latina publishes.
In a meeting last night at the headquarters the mission of the Island to the United Nations, in New York, with Cubans residing in the United States, the minister expressed how the escalation of the US Government damages the rights of these people and interfamily ties.
Those who are now dominating the government agenda in the northern nation try to silence or cancel the opinions of many within this country that oppose the blockade and favor a respectful relationship between the two countries, including the vast majority of Cuban citizens, he said.
The foreign minister reiterated Cuba's willingness to work through dialogue and cooperation, to establish increasingly fluid relations.
In this regard, he highlighted the growing links between Cubans inside and outside the Island and the increase in travel of those living abroad.
Even many young Cubans living in other countries are going to study on the Island, he said.
He also spoke about the situation that has been created as a result of the sanctions, threats and pressures of the United States against the companies that transport fuel, against the governments of registries of those countries and the insurance companies.
This has impacted public transport, but we are facing them with a lot of solidarity and optimism, saving measures are taken and all citizens are giving their support, he stressed.
Another of the actions with great impact are those of travel and cruise restrictions, he said, which affects the exchanges between the people.
Likewise, he added, the restrictions on consular services and the granting of visas persist, as well as difficulties for travelers who must go to third-country consulates for procedures.
Likewise, the chancellor continued, the US authorities restricted the right of United States citizens to visit Cuba and know first hand our reality.
But to the adverse effects of all this for the economy, we want to end the year without having committed any of the fundamental development programs, he stressed.
Despite the problems, he noted, the current Cuban economy is stronger and more resilient, since our economic relations have diversified.
Cuba is consolidated as a safe tourist destination, and will continue to reap success, he said. 'We will overcome difficulties based on the close unity and solidarity of our people.'
