Havana: Immersed in the largest event of its type, the Havana International Fair, the Cuban capital is seeking to close 2019 with a hopeful view towards the future, including trade, investment and the celebration of its 500 years of existence, Prensa Latina publishes.

While the news is not very encouraging in the face of the absolute hostility of the Donald Trump administration towards the island, the word 'isolation' is far from the current reality of Cuba.

The Havana International Fair, FIHAV 2019, sees the curious harmony of different positions reached with other nations, including the total commitment to increased trade from countries such as Vietnam, or the confirmation of continued gradual growth from Chile, despite its internal problems.

Vietnamese Ambassador to Cuba Nguyen Thung Than welcomed the spirit of cooperation of the two nations throughout history, and stressed that Hanoi renews its commitment and confidence in this market.

First Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, Antonio Carricarte, and Orlando Hernandez, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Cuba, attended the opening ceremony of the Vietnamese pavilion at FIHAV 2019.

New measures were applied a week ago by the Trump administration to suspend US flights to Cuban destinations other than Havana. Yet other airlines have reiterated their commitment to Cuba.

FIHAV 2019 is not the panacea that will solve all problems, nor is the 500 years of the always majestic Villa of San Cristobal de La Habana, or the upcoming state visit by the King and Queen of Spain, but Cuba has much to remain hopeful about.
