Havana, Cuba_ The book An Absolutely Valid Text, which includes articles on the speech Words to Intellectuals, pronounced by Fidel Castro in 1961, stands today the validity of that allegation, Prensa Latina reported.

Historian Elier Ramirez Cañedo compiled in this volume a selection of 16 prestigious writings of authors like Graziella Pogolotti, Armando Hart, Carlos Rafael Rodriguez, Lisandro Otero and Fernando Martinez Heredia.

During his presentation the day before, a panel formed by Roberto Fernánde Retamar, director of Casa de las Americas, Miguel Barnet, president of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba, and filmmaker Luis Morlotte referred to the validity of the ideas expressed by Fidel that year.

Barnet spoke of Fidel’s genius to debate complex issues in the early years of the Revolution, the role of culture in that process and the need to promote art.

For his part, Fernandez Retamar explained how since that speech of the leader of the Cuban Revolution were created the foundations of a cultural policy.

Since late June, artists, intellectuals and Cuban writers commemorated the 55 years of the speech Words to Intellectuals.

According to historian Eduardo Torres Cuevas, the speech of the eminent politician is an important part of the Cuban revolutionary process.

Words to Intellectuals contains messages of strength and vitality and places the Cuban culture in the first line of defense of the Revolution, Torres Cuevas said.

The text presented shows a diversity of opinions from different generations, which give their views on one of the first meetings of Fidel with the Cuban intellectuals at the beginning of the Revolution.
