Havana, Cuba_ Under the slogan “Breast feeding: key for a sustainable development” begins today in more than 170 countries, the World Week of the Breast Feeding (SMLM by its Spanish initials), aimed at stimulating that way of giving the babies the necessary nutrients for a growth and healthy development, Cubasi publishes.

According to the organizers, during the week they will inform on the new Objectives of Sustainable Development (ODS) and how they are related with the maternal nursing and the feeding of breast-fed babies and small boys and girls.

They also will define breast feeding as a key element of the sustainable development and to promote different actions of lactation and infant’s feeding at all levels, in the new era of ODS.

In such a sense, the World Health Organization (OMS) recommends the natural feeding as an exclusive way of nutrition during the first six months of life.

Starting from that period, the UN’s body advices to continue with the mother's feeding until the two years, as minimum, appropriately supplemented with other innocuous foods.

Only 43 percent of the children smaller than six months receive maternal milk, in an exclusive way, in the world.

According to OMS, with the SMLM they commemorate the Declaration of Innocenti, formulated by high positions of the agency and Unicef in August of 1990, with the purpose of protecting, promoting and supporting the maternal feeding.
