Havana, Cuba_ Cuba and the United States will held this Friday in Washington the four session of the Bilateral Commission, the penult one of this dialogue mechanism during Barack Obama’s administration, Cubadebate publishes.
During a press conference in Havana, Cuban Foreign Ministry Deputy Director General for the United States Gustavo Machin affirmed that they will check review the results of the efforts undertaken over the last four months, since the last meeting held May 16, in Havana, and work together toward the normalization of relations.
“Cuba will reiterate at the 4th meeting of the Bilateral Commission the necessity to lift the blockade, to return to Cuba the illegally occupied territory in Guantanamo by the Naval Base, and to eliminate other policies that are detrimental to Cuban sovereignty” , Machin added.
Josefina Vidal, General Director for the U.S. of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, will head the island's delegation to the meeting, while the U.S. party will be headed by Mari Carmen Aponte and Jonathan Finer, Assistant Secretary of State for Hemispheric Affairs and Director of Policy Planning of the State Department, respectively.
The Bilateral Comission was created officially on August 2015 during John Kerry’s visit to Havana, as a mechanism to check the links between the two countries after the reestablishment of the diplomatic relations. Its first meeting took place on September 11th, 2015 and the last one will be held by the years’ end, before a new President arrives in the White House.
