Guantanamo, Cuba_ The natural events that marked the weekend in this eastern Cuban province still keep its inhabitants surprised.
The local heavy rains that occurred on Saturday were a blessing and causes enthusiasm in those who have suffered for over a year the rigors and limitations of a severe drought, which extension is predicted by the specialists.
That day, the desired cold began to be felt, and more than one was happy to get the stylish winter clothes and enjoy a fresh dawn in a region where winters go unnoticed and as a popular expression says "the hot crack the stones."
Although both situations may seem normal in this winter season for Guantanamo’s people are usually an event, because for more than two years ago the cold fronts that have arrived to the island, seem to have forgotten this part of the far eastern of the Island.
Out of the seven that hit Cuba in the current winter season, only three were felt in the region with temperatures that dropped to just 16 degrees at night, as the days continue to warm, with temperatures of 21-25 degree, according to reports of the National Meteorology Institute.
Rain, on the other hand, did not also favor the territory as much, during the first two weeks of the year not even a drop of water felt on these lands and this weekend it barely reached the 50 millimeters, according to local sources, but they were just welcome happily.
But the joy for the occurrence of such weather events, came to an end when at 8:08 am (local time) on Sunday an earthquake 3.7 on Richter scale put the people and the local authorities on the edge.
The quake -number 33 reported since January 17, when which experts have called anómala- seismic activity began in the eastern region, raised the embarrassment of Guantanamo this weekend.
So, despite this Monday runs quiet, sunny and cool, people do not talk about anything but the cold, rain and earthquakes, natural events that these days mark the rhythm of life of the inhabitants of the eastern Cuban provinces.
Meanwhile, the local authorities call for calm and remain alert to the occurrence of any unexpected surprise that the Mother Nature would have reserved.
