Santiago de Cuba_ Residents of Santiago de Cuba massively visited this Sunday the pantheon where the ashes of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro in the Santa Ifigenia cemetery rest, Radio Reloj publishes.

Since the opening of the necropolis gate at noon, the people of Santiago deposited flowers in the niche where the ashes of the Commander-in-Chief rest inside a large stone.

Hours earlier, President Raul Castro had placed the urn with the remains of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro, in his last abode in a solemn and private ceremony.

Relatives and more than 40 international guests, friends of the Commander in Chief and personalities who attended this Saturday night the act in the Plaza de la Revolución Antonio Maceo were present during the mournful and emotional moment.

Along with the people, that brings flowers to Fidel, there are hundreds of journalists from all over the world who queued for hours to take pictures of the place.

Authorities have placed fences in the surrounding area for the orderly entry of the pilgrims. Every hour there is a change of the guard of honor while the notes of the cantata "Eterno Fidel" can be heard.
