Havana, Cuba__ Before the repeal of the Special Parole program for Cuban medical professionals, and the wet foot-dry foot policy, the governments of the countries involved in the irregular movement of Cubans to the United States have reacted positively to the agreement that promotes a legal, organized and secure migration, according to Granma newspaper.

In Panama, the head of the National Migration Service, Javier Carrillo, said that this decision will discourage irregular entry of Cubans to Panama in their transit through Ecuador to the United States because they no longer have the privilege to remain legally in the North American country, Carrillo said.

He added that the Panamanian government will treat the Cubans who are crossing the country, in the same way as the rest of the undocumented migrants.

The Government of Costa Rica expressed satisfaction with the change in the US policy of wet foot-dry foot, considering that this promoted human trafficking in the region.

That Central American country was one of those affected by the irregular migration of Cubans seeking to reach US territory by land, stimulated by receiving preferential conditions in that country until January 12.

Fred Mitchell, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahamas, expects the deal to be continued after the arrival at the White House of Donald Trump, quoted by the Jamaica Observer.

Ecuador, another country of transit, also applauded the elimination of that policy begun in 1995. Guillaume Long, Foreign Relation Minister of the South American country, announced through the social networks, his satisfaction on behalf of the country he represents, by the decision to end the wet foot-dry foot policy, something Ecuador and other countries requested in August 2016.

In a statement, James Williams, leader of the Engage Cuba coalition, which promotes better ties between the two countries, called the White House's announcement a logical, responsible and important step toward normalizing bilateral relations.
