Havana, Cuba__ The Young Communists League (UJC), recognized a group of young people and labor collectives, as part of the activities for its 55th anniversary and the 56th anniversary of the José Martí Pioneers Organization, Granma newspaper reports.

With the purpose of honoring the dedication and the untiring spirit in the fulfillment of the duty, they presented the Flag of Honor of the Young Communists League to 10 centers that stand out for their contributions to the socio-economic life of the country, while five students with outstanding merits in the study and research received the José Antonio Echeverría Medal.

The UJC wanted to recognize 14 young people with the Abel Santamaría Medal, and to honor a group of political leaders who guide the organization's activities in different sectors.

On the other hand, the Julio Antonio Mella Order, the highest distinction of the UJC, was awarded to Ledif Goya Borges, recipient of the Distinguished Service Medal in the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Cuba, and delegate to several world youth and students festivals.

"Receiving this award is an honor, especially when you receive it on behalf of a whole mass of MININT youth, able with their effort to ensure the security of the state, interior order and the tranquility of citizens," Goya Borges said.

Speaking to the decorations, Ronald Hidalgo Rivera, the UJC's second secretary, said: "They represent thousands of others determined not to lower their flags, however strong the winds may be. Today we face multiple battles where collective intelligence, the sense of belonging to the organization is essential. "

The ceremony was attended by José Ramón Machado Ventura, Second Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and Vice-President of the Councils of State and Ministers, as well as members of the Politburo Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, Secretary General of the Cuban Workers Union (CTC) and Teresa Amarelle, secretary general of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) and other members of the secretariat of the Party Central Committee.
