Havana, Cuba_ The Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Irina Bokova, will arrive today in Cuba where she will hold meetings with Cuban authorities and visit centers of interest, Prensa Latina reports.
The Bulgarian politician, the first woman in Eastern Europe to take over the Unesco secretariat, will visit the Historical Center of Old Havana and meet with the historian of the city, Eusebio Leal.
The agenda also includes a meeting with the Cuban Minister of Culture, Abel Prieto.
During her stay, Bokova will also attend the Global Concert for the International Jazz Day that will host the Island this April 30th and other activities associated with that event.
Her stay coincides with the 70th anniversary of Cuba's accession to Unesco.
This United Nations organization is based in Paris and was founded on November 16, 1945. Its entry into force occurred the following year.
