Havana, Cuba_ The activities for the International Day of the Family (May 15), will start this Sunday, Mother's Day, according to the call of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC), Radio Habana Cuba publishes.

The day, which will last until June 18, Father's Day, aims to highlight the importance of strengthening the role of the family in Cuban society, fundamentally as a value-maker.

According to Arelys Santana Bello, the second secretary of the FMC, it is also intended to recognize the work of the Counseling Houses for women and the family, as well as the hundreds of people who provide services in these centers on a voluntary basis.

She explained that meetings with founders and acts of entry to the organization, debates, panels on the leading role of women in the history of Cuba, and other activities will be held throughout the country.

On the other hand, Mayda Álvarez Suárez, director of the Center for Women's Studies, stressed that the occasion will serve to launch the celebration for the 20th anniversary of that institution, on November 5.
