Havana, Cuba_ The International Agroforestry Convention begins today in Cuba with the participation of experts from 19 countries, focused on the problems of agricultural yields and the functioning of the productive chains of the sector, Prensa Latina reports.

Entrepreneurs, small farmers, academics and university students will give way to the exchange, which will run until next Friday at Havana’s Conference Center.

According to the organizing committee, more than 600 Cuban and foreign delegates were accredited to participate in the event, which will include the holding of several events.

Simultaneously, the Seventh Cuban Forestry Congress, a Coffee and Cocoa Congress, the 7th International Meeting of Young Agroforestry Researchers and a symposium on beekeeping will be held.

In the opinion of Humberto García, director general of the National Institute of Agroforestry Research (INAF), the meeting should enable a fruitful exchange on topics such as the preservation of forests, energy production and forest biomass, pests and diseases, cocoa plantations, bee flora and climate change.

Experts from Cuba, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Ethiopia, the United States, Germany, France and Italy, among other nations, will participate in the analysis of the INAF director confirmed.

There will also be analyzes on the interaction between forests and water, sustainable technologies for agricultural production, ecosystem services in forestry, selection and improvement of bees, the convention website informed.
