Havana, Cuba_ The XI International Convention on Environment and Development was inaugurated at Havana’s Convention Center with the participation of about 700 delegates from 31 countries, including Cuba, and the presence of Revolution Commander Guillermo Garcia FrÃas, among other guests, Radio Clock reports.
During the opening session, the Minister of Science, Technology and Environment, Elba Rosa Pérez Montoya, highlighted the validity of the environmentalist thinking of the Cuban Revolution's historic leader, Fidel Castro.
She stressed that food production and economic growth in some latitudes have had a high cost to the environment, increased deforestation, and greenhouse gas emissions.
Pérez Montoya, stressed that our country has maintained a systematic attention to these issues, prioritizing the training of human resources in charge of this task.
She pointed out that as a clear statement of the importance given by our Commander in Chief Fidel Castro to the negative effects of climate change, the State Plan for confronting this phenomenon, known as Tarea Vida, was recently approved.
The Minister of CITMA explained that the XI International Convention on environment and development holds 6 congresses, 3 symposia and 2 colloquiums.
The event will multiply human solidarity as an essential element for the conservation of the environment.
