Havana, Cuba_ A Venezuelan doctor who arrive in Cuba last February 21st, 2016, to receive a postgrade course on Gastroenterology is suffering from Zica, being this the first case of the virus diagnosed in the Island, the digital site of Mayabeque newspaper reports.

The doctor, a young woman of 28 years old, is staying at the Students Hostel in Machurrucutu, Artemisa province, with other 37 physicians, who are under epidemiologic observance.

As read a note of The Health Ministry, the young doctor began suffering from a 37,5 ยบ C feverish on February 22nd, and the next day in the night she got a rash in her face and trunk besides pain in the articulations.

Since that moment she was hospitalized on February 24th at Pedro Kouri Tropical Diseases Institute, where she is still interned. The patient has no fever, she has good general conditions, the rash has been disappearing gradually and she did not present conjunctivitis.

The doctor referred that her husband had a clinical diagnosis of Zica two months ago and that her brother in law suffered from the illness two weeks before she travelled to our country.

On February 25, the Reactive Protein C (PCR) in real time to Zica virus, carried out to the patient at the moment of her hospitalization, was informed to be negative, but as the result did not coincide with the clinic and the epidemiologic antecedents, the laboratory complement was repeated again on February 28th, diagnosing her as positive of the virus, on February 29th.

The rest of the professionals are under medical observance, and they have not presented any symptoms so far.
