Havana, Cuba_ Fiagrop 2016 opened yesterday, with the participation 76 firms from 11 countries, including Cuba, intends to promote the business portfolio in agroindustry, raise the livestock culture and the productivity, said the Agriculture deputy minister Jose Miguel Rodriguez, Prensa Latina reports.

In Rodriguez' opinion, Fiagrop 2016 is a bright opportunity to facilitate exchanging views on inputs, technologies and equipment of the ministries of Agriculture, the Food Industry and the Cuban sugar industry group Azcuba.

At least 32 specialized lectures will be given on different topics, and according to Rodriguez, 27 business opportunities in the agrifood sector have been identified.

He added that the managerial improvement process in Cuban agriculture is scheduled to be completed this year, allowing greater autonomy of entities and an increase in productivity.

The fair has four highlights, including a commodity pool with companies from the United States, Spain, Romania, Germany and other nations presenting their products.

The Alabama Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries, John Mc Millan, on his first visit to this fair, explained that they have been supplying chicken and other products since 2002, and he said to be interested in supplying all kinds of Alabama products to Cuba, including cars, and in acquiring Cuban fruits, which he described as very good.

The fair, which is held every year at the Rancho Boyeros exhibit center, opened on March 11 with artistic, cultural and children's activities, followed by rodeo practices and other cattle-related competitions.
