Havana_ Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Rodrigo Malmierca received on Wednesday the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs, Federica Mogherini, who is on an official visit to the Island, with the purpose of strengthening bilateral relations, Radio Habana Cuba publishes.

Malmierca said that this trip shows the interest of the parties in continuing to consolidate the links between Havana and Brussels, whose agreement on political dialogue and cooperation entered into force on last November, 1st.

He argued that this agreement, which will be provisional until the parliaments of the 28 member states of the EU ratify it, establishes the bases to expand collaboration in various sectors of common interest.

Mogherini described the work done between the two parties as very good and said that with the agreement, much more could be done in areas where there are potentials such as culture and various branches of the economy.

During her stay in the Caribbean nation, it will be held the first meeting of the EU-Cuba Joint Council at the ministerial level, according to a press release from the office of the High Representative.
