“The truth needs us”. Under this slogan that will preside over the work sessions of the X Congress of the Union of Journalists of Cuba (Upec) next July, the members of the association in Mayabeque fulfill a program of activities dedicated to José Martí’s birth, the 85th anniversary of death of the journalist and patriot Juan Gualberto Gómez and the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the newspaper El Cubano Libre.

On March 14, on the occasion of the 126th anniversary of the foundation of the newspaper Patria by Martí, the Agrarian University of Havana (UNAH) will receive professionals of the word in the province, who will learn about the progress that this high house of studies shows in the preparation of new areas and will evaluate possible collaborative actions with the Upec and the Territorial Delegation of the ICRT.

To promote the investigation of students in the media, a greater use of local radio and television, categorization of personnel, among other issues, appear on the meeting’s agenda.

Those awarded with the National Journalism Awards José Martí for the work of life and the Juan Gualberto Gómez for the work of the year 2017 will visit works of social impact in Güines and San José de las Lajas on March 15 as well as exchange with the political and government directions. They will also pay homage to Antonio Moltó Martorell, who died last August when he was President of the Union of Journalists of Cuba. For the occasion it will take place an exhibition related to the presence of Moltó, first in the former province of Havana and later in Mayabeque.

As part of the Day for the Cuban Press, the Upec in Mayabeque will present the Raúl Gómez García Prize for the work of life and the annuals in the radio, television, photography and design specialties and the written and digital press. The results of the Juan Candelario Bacallao Provincial Journalism Competition will also be announced.

In advance, three young people participated in the third national event of journalists, held in the capital of the country; All the delegations were honored by women who in the media work in the journalistic activity to salute March 8, International Women's Day. The central act of the Upec for the date, had as headquarters the delegation of Radio Camoa. On March 2, the work of announcers and sound directors linked to the press areas was recognized.
