Mayabeque, Cuba_ An extensive reforestation program is undertaken in the municipality of Madruga with the support of students of the Agronomy career from Boris Luis Santa Coloma Polytechnic Institute, as part of their professional training and actions to promote a culture in favor of the environment.
Young people combine teaching with practice and work in agricultural units of the territory in the planting of timber and fruit trees that help boost the economy, protect the soil and the atmosphere.
Also the future agricultural technicians participate in the plowing of areas, the accomplishment of trails and the cleaning in zones damaged by forest fires and the drought to later plant trees purifiers of the air.
Together with professors and specialists of the forestry service of the Ranger Corps, they carry out an educational activity and promotion of the Tarea Vida in the communities, especially in rural zones with large areas of land.
Every year, human negligence causes considerable losses and damage to the ground as a result of forest fires, which makes necessary to encourage the care of the environment.
The period between January 1 and May 31 is considered the most critical for the occurrence of fires so the preventive measures should be strengthened, including the prohibition of the use of fire in forests by natural or legal persons.
The license is only granted in exceptional and well planned cases which comply with the security measures and technical regulations established.
