Mayabeque, Cuba_ The weightlifters of our province won nine medals in the 37th edition of the Manuel Suarez In Memoriam International Weightlifting Tournament, recently concluded at the Fernando de Dios Buñuel de Holguín Sala. 

Niulis Poroye González Gala, from Jaruco, the most successful weightlifter in our territory, ratified her national hegemony in the 58 kilograms, by setting three Cuban records with 77 in start, 97 in pushing, and total of 174, leaving behind her previous primacies of 75 - 96- 171.

Neyvis Gala, international referee of the specialty, stressed that Niulis intends to continue improving its marks with an eye on the Central American Games of Barranquilla.

The results of Yerovis Mora Hernández and Yoana Calderín Quintero, students of the Provincial Academy in Güines, were also relevant, as they took possession of two gold, three silver and one bronze medals, in the sub-17 years and older category.

Yerovis, from San José de las Lajas, won golden medals in the 50 kilograms in sub-17 years and three silver medals among adults in the 56 division.

According to Alexander García Pérez, one of the coaches of the Academy, the best results of Yerovi were 71 kilos in the starting mode, 84 in push and 155 in biatlon.

For her part, Yoana, a strong Güinera of over 69 kilograms division, won the gold headband among those under 17 years of age in the start-up mode, with a national record of 86 kilograms and a bronze with a push of 87 in the senior category.

Weightlifters from Puerto Rico, Peru, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras participated in the tournament besides 52 Cubans of elite categories and several promising under-17s.
