The King of the sky rises for everybody. This was demonstrated by María Claudia Hernández Oliva, from Mayabeque, who deserves the Interpretation and Popularity Awards at the Singing to the Sun Festival 2018, held at the capital’s Lazaro Peña Theater.

Both awards are endorsed by the artistic sensitivity and quality in the presentation of the theme La Fiesta del Tío Girasol, from the authorship of Jorge del Valle, Illustrious Son of Quivicán.

In statements to Radio Mayabeque, the winner of the contest said she was happy to receive the award from the hands of the prestigious writer Nersys Felipe.

"The theme belongs to the conga-pilón genre and I like it a lot because it talks about the sunflower uncle inviting everyone to a party that is going to be held to cheer up the birds because last year the forest was cut and they need to spend a time of happiness”.

María Claudia also had to dance. She assures that "it was pylon, a very moving rhythm."

Singing to the Sun came this year with novelties, "Yes, to have access to the interpretation prize I had to sing Barquito de papel and El cangrejito enamorado, two very well-known songs in our country".

When asked how she had done with those versions she said: "It was not so difficult because I belong to a project called The first hands, in which I have been taught many things about music, I have met very talented children from other parts of the country, all very nice, very good. "

When talking about the final line of the contest she said that "the competition was very close, there were many good themes, it really didn’t matter to win, the important thing was to be there".

The jury of the two thousand and eighteen version of Singing to the Sun awarded a mention to the creation of the work Gorgojo Enamorado, by Guines’ composers Manuel Sánchez and Doris Pérez and performed by María Karla Amaro.
