Mayabeque, Cuba_ A workshop on the production, collection and selection of seeds, took place in the grounds of La Pedrera farm, located near the south coast of the municipality of Güines.

The participants could learned about the different species, the work in the nurseries, the washing and drying processes, production criteria and main characteristics of the six varieties of tomatoes presented.

In these lands, too, they have nurseries to obtain seeds of eggplants, cucumbers, chard, radish, lettuce and other crops.

The farmer José Arturo Carabeo Álvarez, for more than 10 years, has used agro-ecology with a scientific basis, based on the suggestions of the specialists of the Horticultural Research Institute Liliana Dimitrova and the National Agricultural Sciences, among others.

"After visiting these scientific centers, I was motivated towards issues related to the development of national varieties," Carabeo Álvarez said.
