Mayabeque, Cuba_ A congratulation from Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, president of the Councils of State and Ministers, to the workers of the National Center for Agricultural Health (Censa), was given by José Ramón Saborido Loydi, Minister of Education, at the closing ceremony for the 50th anniversary of that scientific institution.

He also referred to the greeting that sent by Roberto Morales Ojeda, a member of the Political Bureau and vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers, and also highlighted, Censa's rich trajectory, a pillar in the sustainable advancement of animal, vegetable and human health; from the execution of basic projects and technological innovation, academic training and the development of specialized scientific and technical products and services, all with highly qualified personnel.

A brief history of that center, created by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, was carried out by its current general director, Dr. Nivian Montes de Oca Martínez, who assured that they are prepared to respond to the creation of the first technological science park in the agri-food sector, a claim of the country that will be undertaken together with the other institutions that make up the productive scientific teacher complex in the province of Mayabeque: the National Institutes of Agricultural Sciences and Animal Science, as well as the Agrarian University of Havana.

She specified that during the first decade of the Censa they studied the main problems of animal health, and among the most important results they reached the bovine genetic improvement, through the crossing of the zebu with the Holstein, in order to increase milk production; the creation of zoo-technical bases of commercial poultry, as well as the support with innovative technologies for the diagnosis, surveillance and control of the main diseases that affected productive animals.

By firmly supporting the task of being prepared to respond to the introduction of exotic diseases into the livestock patrimony, she exemplified that they were able to eradicate African swine fever - in its two incursions into the national territory - and to carry out investigations of endemic species, such as the crocodile, which contributed to their protection.

Dr. Montes de Oca Martínez highlighted the work they have always done with the Ministries of Higher Education, Agriculture, Science, Technology and the Environment, Food Industry, Public Health, BioCubafarma, the National Civil Defense Staff and the ECTI Sierra Maestra , in addition to various international organizations.

The achievement of means and diagnostic methodologies for viral and bacterial diseases, in support of national programs for obtaining biotechnological seed and the selection of resistant varieties introduced in the production of crops such as tomatoes, potatoes, beans and rice, in addition to the development of environmentally friendly technologies, were other results highlighted in her presentation.

She underlined that in the last 30 years, together with the consolidation of the previous results, they have introduced new tools for the diagnosis and monitoring of diseases and plants, both endemic and those that may constitute health disaster dangers for the agricultural sector, time that consolidates the multi sectorial integration in the investigations and provision of services, something essential at present.

The ceremony pay homage to Dr. Rosa Elena Simeón, and honored founders and workers with 40, 30, 20 and 10 years of work receive recognitions.
