Mayabeque, Cuba_ Marina Balado Herrera was born poor and black, in Melena del Sur, her only wealth was love and the union of a family of eight brothers. The stories told by her mother, the multiple risky births, decided her vocation to become an obstetric nurse.

The generosity and the light irradiated by the Revolution, changed her life, so she did not hesitate to step forward and fulfill her internationalist mission, in Ethiopia, in 1977.

The harsh reality of the impoverished country marked sensibly the very young nurse melenera. In 1983 she returned to that nation again, but not only to practice her profession, but also as a teacher.

The constancy and the lineage of this ebony Mariana left her mark among the Ethiopian medical personnel.

She arrived in Venezuela on October 8, 2006, to carry out her third internationalist mission.

Due to her human and professional virtues, Marina recently received the "Cofia de Oro", an important recognition from the Health Department, in Mayabeque.
