Knowing the facts is not enough, the most important thing is to understand them and in order to achieve this, deeper insights and interpretations, made from emotions are needed.

That I thought, on March 13, 2015, when I saw, Gerardo Hernández, one of the Five Heroes, talking about José Antonio Echeverría and the events of 1957.

Gerardo had been in Cuba for less than 3 months, after suffering 17 years of unjust imprisonment in US prisons, but he agreed to my invitation to visit Radio Jaruco, where I used to work at that time, despite his innumerable commitments.

At 3:17 in the afternoon, exactly, from the speakers of the station, Echeverría’s speech was heard, that March afternoon, 58 years ago.

Then came the almendrones and appeared, on one side, those who represented the tyrant's police, and on the other, those who embodied the youth of the Revolutionary Directory.

The exchange of shots was simulated, supported by the effects transmitted.

That day surpassed everything I dreamed and hoped for as a Cuban, as a journalist, as a friend of Gerardo and her fighting companions.
