Mayabeque, Cuba_ Students and workers of Güines paid tribute to José Antonio Echeverría, one of the leaders of the Cuban student movement, and to the young people who offered their lives in the actions of March 13, 1957 when they assaulted the Presidential Palace and Radio Reloj to overthrow the tyranny of Fulgencio Batista.

In an act carried out at the provincial radio station Radio Mayabeque, they staged the events of that epic and ratified their commitment to defend the Homeland at any price.

The president of the University Students Federation of the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the province, Anel González Díaz, spoke of the responsibility, heroism and will of the new generation, to defend the legacy of Fidel Castro.

The leader reaffirmed the confidence in the youth organization and the conviction that any task no matter how great can be assigned to the young people, as the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution expressed on April 4, 2003 in the event for the anniversary of the Young Communists League.

When recalling the assault on the Presidential Palace, the taking of Radio Reloj and the assassination of the student leader by soldiers of the tyranny of Fulgencio Batista 62 years ago, the university students showed that they will continue defending their country from the classrooms to preserve the path of freedom.

About José Antonio Echevarría, Fidel Castro on the university stairway on March 13, 1960, said: "He was the highest exponent of the university student body and the brightest young man in the University in the last years ... above all, an example that is pride for our generation, who was born here as a leader, not only from the students, but as a revolutionary leader of all the people at the University of Havana”.
