Mayabeque, Cuba: With the objective of recovering the beaches and coasts, as well as cleaning up the communities, the authorities of Batabanó implement an action plan in to identify the most affected areas and act urgently.

The protection of coastal forests is another essential issue, so they give priorities to the environmental training in the schools of the territory, addressing issues such as the importance of coastal areas, their protection and adaptation to climate change.

In this way, future generations are more prepared and involved in caring for the environment. An example of this was the cleaning day of one and a half cubic meters of the Surgidero de Batabanó beach, where the main waste collected was plastic.

As part of the program they recently evaluated the work of the Manglar Vivo project, the first coastline that constitutes a natural barrier against coastal flooding or sea penetration.

In addition, the teams dedicated to the Life Task project, support the sanitation of Surgidero and the settlements of Pedroso, La Julia and the Batabanó development zone.

Facing the coastal indisciplines, taking care of the places affected by the pollution, ensuring compliance with this plan and educating the population, especially those living on the coasts, are prioritized tasks in the territory.
