Mayabeque, Cuba: Nine years after its creation and despite the limitations imposed by the US blockade against Cuba, the laboratory of the Ultramicroanalytical System (SUMA) of Jaruco remains as a bulwark of Public Health in this municipality.
The laboratory, located at Noelio Capote Integral Teaching Polyclinic, guarantees the correct diagnosis of almost twenty illnesses at no cost, according to the report of Radio Jaruco,.
In the midst of not a few financial difficulties, the Ministry of Public Health maintains the supply of the necessary reagents so that tests related to the Maternal and Child Care Program (PAMI) can be carried out there.
The research of the technicians and specialists of this SUMA laboratory also supports the investigation of chronic noncommunicable diseases, such as cancer and kidney failure.
Griselda Bordón López, an analyst specialist at the center, said that they also determine the Human Immunodeficiency Virus, Hepatitis B and C, as well as the Dengue virus.
She also said that the three-monthly maintenance provided by the Immunoassay Center to the equipment allows them to interpret the samples.
