Mayabeque, Cuba_ Specialists from the Genetic and Plant Improvement Department of the National Institute of Agrarian Sciences (INCA in Spanish) in San José de las Lajas, have among their main results the reproduction of hybrid of ornamental interest, Radio Camoa website published.
Master in Science, Lorenzo Suárez Guerra, pioneer in this investigations, explained that the work contribute to rescue and increase the number of specimen of Cuban endemic orchids.
Each specie is the result of the implementation of biotechnological technics and the interaction between the science and the local knowledge which come from early traditions of producers, closely linked to the INCA.
Memoria Celia Sánchez Manduley, Bella Lorena, Ecos de Festivalia, Bohemia Habana and Takeuchi are among the hybrids registered by this high teaching center, in the Holticultural Royal Society of England, highest institution, responsible of the registration of hybrid orchids in the world.
