Mayabeque, Cuba_ The province of Mayabeque will develop several cultural activities, on the occasion of the 180th anniversary of the introduction of the railroad in Cuba and it will be offered different lectures on the history of the event, which took place on November 19th, 1837.
On November 18th from Havana, a locomotive with two cars will leave to the station of Bejucal to commemorate the event.
Manuel Morgado Olivera, deputy director of the Union of Railways of Cuba (UFC), explained that for months they have been preparing the celebration of the event with initiatives such as the presentation of the book Caminos para el azúcar, by the authors Alejandro GarcÃa and Oscar Zanetti, in the Cuban capital, that same day.
According to Morgado Olivera, also 2,000 workers with more than 30 years in the industry will receive recognition diplomas in the nation.
As a culmination, on November 19th, 180 locomotives will whistle in unison in greeting to the date and the central act will take the capital, where a postage stamp will be canceled, Granma newspaper reports.
The UFC website will also be published online and the replica of La Junta, one of the oldest locomotives in the world, will be handed out to outstanding workers.
Cuba was the seventh country in the world to count on the scientific and technical progress of the railroad, and currently more than 20,000 people work in the area.
