Mayabeque, Cuba_ The quality and efficiency are evident in the first days of the potato planting in Mayabeque, said the specialist of the crop in the Agro Forestry Business Group of the province, Luis Mesa Roque, Radio Rebelde publishes. 

In this campaign two thousand hectares will be cultivated, 100 more than in the previous one. This obeys to the country’s demand to favor the feeding of the people.

More than 30 producing units dedicate areas to the cultivation of the tuber. The Agricultural Production Cooperatives Amistad Cubano Búlgara, in Güines, and Pedro Rodríguez Santana, in Quivicán, have the largest amount of area.

The sowing has the benefits of new machines, fertilizers, pesticides and the experience of specialists and producers.

The director said that the first potatoes will be harvested at the beginning of February for the consumption of the inhabitants of the province, Havana and prioritized sectors, including tourism.
