Mayabeque, Cuba_ The challenge of the Cuban farmers is to increase production volumes and reduce imports, said the member of the Central Committee of the Party and President of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP), Rafael Santiesteban Pozo.

According to the Telemayabeque website, Santiesteban Pozo made this statement during the award ceremony of the most outstanding producers of the year 2017.

Farmers play a significant role in food production, a contribution of about 80 percent of what the population consumes.

The challenge in the young province is to guarantee the increase of that figure, the delivery of meals to the inhabitants of the capital of the country and the self-consumption of the territory.

During the ceremony, two peasants received the Romárico Cordero García Medal in representation of the people who work the land.
