Mayabeque, Cuba_ The cultural institutions in the municipality of Madruga are preparing to celebrate the 140th anniversary of the birth of the musician José Urfé González.

For the occasion it is scheduled a day of tribute from February 1 to 9, in which theoretical events will be held about the musical and pedagogical legacy of the artist.

The danzon, whose current rhythm is more rhythmic and accepted by the dancers, is the result of the contributions made at the beginning of the XX century by José Urfé when introducing the montuno of the son oriental in the work El bombín de Barreto.

Children, youth, adults and the elderly will show the roots of the genre and its full validity, which makes it one of the identity elements of the local culture.

Dancing, exhibitions, audiovisual projections and other initiatives will take place in Madruga during those days.

Urfé is considered the most relevant local musician for his artistic career as a pianist and orchestra conductor and his legacy to the nation's cultural heritage with hundreds of musical pieces.

The municipality of Madruga pays permanent tribute to his personality with meritorious work in the preservation of the tradition, which for years became a stronghold of the danzón and sub-site of the Danzón Habana national event, which takes place in March every year.
