Mayabeque, Cuba_ The entrance exams to Higher Education begin on May 3 with the subject of Mathematics, 8 Spanish and 11 History. María Esther Herrera de Armas, director of the Raquel Pérez Pre-University Institute, in San José de las Lajas, offers the details.  

Journalist: How are students preparing for the entrance exams to Higher Education?

María Esther Herrera: Since September of last year, the IPU prepares students for the entrance exams. We work on Saturdays, in the extra teaching schedule, the one of remedial and review

J: What are the main concerns of students during this stage?

MEH: The young people express that the plan of places that are assigned to the province is not enough, there are careers that they would like to have a greater number of places to be able to have more options.

J: What strategies does the institute adopt to overcome the results of previous years?

MEH: Well the first thing is the intensive preparation of the students that are presented to the entrance exams and the methodological of the professors.

When intervening in the televised space of the Round Table, Martha del Carmen Mesa Valenciano, first vice minister of the Ministry of Higher Education (MES), said that the process of entering this level is a consequence of the transformations that have been applied since 2010, with emphasis on the quality of it.

"The subjects that are evaluated are in correspondence with the integral formation of the young people. Each province organizes the entry system rewarded by the MES, " Mesa Valenciano added.
