Mayabeque, Cuba _ "What we are doing to the forests of the world is a mirror of what we do to ourselves and to others". The wise words of the Indian thinker and lawyer Mahatma Gandhi, reached today more relevance for the celebration of World Environment Day.

The central activity in Mayabeque was held at the Theater of the Provincial Assembly of the People's Power, based in San José de las Lajas, about 35 kilometers from Havana, the Cuban capital.

The meeting was attended by workers from Science, Technology and Environment, (CITMA), entities linked to the protection of nature, as well as representatives of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and the Government.

The main advances of the State Plan for the confrontation to climate change (Life Task), under the slogan "Cultivating Hope", were announced during the celebration. "One year after its approval in Mayabeque, all the indications are implemented, working groups are constituted and all have their action plan", the Director of CITMA, Yanetsi García Posada said.

He further stated: "the strengthening of the integrated management authority in Batabanó, the results of the Living Mangrove Project in the recovery of the Mangrove forest, as a protective barrier against coastal floods, the education of the population, the recovery of the South Dock, the works that the P-15 Project is developing to recover the hydraulic systems, are part of the actions that are developed in the province with satisfactory results ".

The celebration of June 5, World Environment Day, allowed the delivery of recognitions to personalities and entities highlighted for their contribution and contributions to the care and protection of the environment in Mayabeque.
