Mayabeque, Cuba_ Researchers from Mayabeque promote the development of beekeeping as an exportable item to achieve greater production, from the selection of quality genetic material for obtaining honey and other sub-products

Doctor in Sciences Anisley Pérez Hernández, professor of the Agrarian University of Havana, explains that these strategies help to reduce the use of chemicals in beekeeping, a fundamental area for the development of pollination.

"We have several lines of research aimed at the work of management and selection of genetics of the bee, and also a modern methodology is being implemented”, Pérez Hernández said.

The beekeeping is the activity dedicated to the upbringing of the bees and to give them the necessary cares to obtain and to consume the products that are able to elaborate and to collect.

The similar culture of other honey-producing bees (meliponids) is called meliponiculture. Vespiculture is the exploitation of the scarce species of honey-producing bee.
