Mayabeque, Cuba_ In Mayabeque began the preparations for the Campaign to protect against forest fires facing the dry season, which will worsen since January 1 and extend through June.
The conservation of the firebreaks in the forests or areas dedicated to the sowing of pastures and forages, the location of warnings in the zones susceptible to the occurrence of these accidents and the surveillance by members of the forest ranger are some of the preventive measures that are already implemented in the territory.
The main tasks are concentrated in areas near the Ocho Vias, scenarios where the largest number of forest farms, as well as the wooded areas of La Loma del Cheche, Domingo Garcia Frias Ranch, among others located in the provincial capital.
These actions are of vital importance because, as a consequence of climate change, the dry season is increasingly intense, so the work to prevent forest fires must be more effective, according to Mislaidys Torres Pérez, Chief of the State Forest Service in San José de las Lajas.
