Mayabeque, Cuba: The reactivation of the so-called Click Patrols is among the priorities of the José Martí Pioneer Organization (OPJM), based on the current situation in the country.

Camilo Cienfuegos Gorriarán Elementary School, in San José de las Lajas, highlights the work of this movement to raise awareness among students and the family about the importance of these measures.

According to teacher Maritza Mesa Rosell, "in this way children understand the need for energy savings."

The student Massiel Frances Echenique, recognizes the importance of detecting where she can economize and use electricity correctly.

There are other internal actions in the center itself, “from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 in the afternoon we carry out an internal auto-shutdown, besides outside these hours the lights where natural lighting can be used are turned off,” said the director of the institution, Omar Suárez Núñez.

Through the implementation of the Energy Saving Program of the Ministry of Education (PAEME), they carry out educational talks, conversations and exchanges with students and parents related to the efficient use of energy.

To contribute to energy savings in schools, the General Direction of Education, Culture and Sports of the Provincial Administration in Mayabeque indicated some measures, without affecting the quality of the educational process:

• Pre-university institutes reorganize teaching activities from Monday to Friday. Those schools with internal functioning will extend the frequency of the weekend recess to 15 days to reduce fuel costs.

• Minimize the use of computer, English and science labs, workshops, and electrical equipment, and never use them during peak hours.

• Adjust the time for the use of the Professional Technical Education (ETP) workshops, only in tasks related to production and services that favor the acquisition of skills by the students.

• Redesign, where possible, teaching schedules to teach only in the morning session.

• Develop educational activities in Youth and Adult Education from 4:30 to 6:30 in the afternoon and extend it until Friday.
