Mayabeque, Cuba: The athlete from San José de las Lajas, Melany del Pilar Matheus participates in the World Athletics Championship that began today in the Qatari capital, Doha.

The athlete is part of the Cuban delegation made up of 17 athletes. Around a thousand athletes from 210 national federations are participating in the event.

According to Radio Habana Cuba, the manager of the Cuban athletics team, Jorge Luis Aguilera Ruiz, said that in the event highlight the participation of the world and Pan-American champion, Juan Miguel Echevarría, the first Cuban to take action, in the jump length classification test.

On this day there are also five other representatives of the island participate in preliminary tests.

Yaimé Pérez, Denia Caballero and Melany del Pilar Matheus will seek the classification in the test of the disc, an implement in which Melany was a youth champion, following the steps of the Cuban stars.

In the stick, Yarisley Silva will compete, in the triple Liadagmis Povea, in the high jump Luis Enrrique Zayas, Jordan Diaz, Andy Diaz and Cristian Napoles will contend in the triple, while in the 800 flat meters Rose Mary Almanza will participate.

Zurian Hechavarría, will compete in the 400 with fences, Roxana Gómez, in 400 flat meters, Adriana Rodríguez, in the long jump, Reynier Mena, in 200, Roger Valentín Iribarne, in 110 hurdles, and in the test of the men's disc will be Jorge Fernandez
