Mayabeque, Cuba: The Municipal Electoral Councils were created in the municipalities of San Nicolás and Nueva Paz. The members of these structures were chosen or designated previously according to the terms of the new Electoral Law.
As provided, they have at each level the function of organizing, directing and securing the electoral processes, the popular consultations where appropriate and the referendums and plebiscites that are convened, transcended in the act carried out in San Nicolás.
The Electoral Councils have a permanent character, are the highest electoral authorities in their respective territories and act independently of any other local body. In Nueva Paz, for example and as a result of the conformation, there is youth and experience among the members.
The electoral councils should only adhere to and obey the Constitution of the Republic of Cuba, the laws and only render account to the Electoral Council.
