Mayabeque, Cuba: Mayabeque remains in the last 10 years with a steady job in the prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV-AIDS.

This was reported by the head of the program that treats STIs and hepatitis in the province, José Luis Ramírez Garrido, who added that the appearance of new cases of HIV-AIDS has decreased, in relation to the same period of the previous year.

The specialist calls for extreme prevention measures. San José de las Lajas, Madruga, Santa Cruz del Norte and Bejucal are municipalities prioritized by the program to prevent these diseases.

Although the usual pattern is that those infected with the HIV virus are men who have sex with other men, a non-negligible number of women with this disease are currently reported in the province.
