Mayabeque, Cuba_ A detailed analysis of the 2015-2016 potato campaign and the strategies to face next season took place in the provincial plenary related to that crop, carried out at Liliana Dimitrova Horticultural Research Institute (IIHLD) in Quivicán.

Hector Ginebra, director of the Agriculture and Forestry Business Group in the province, explain the details to be considered for the next potato’s season, crop that is very appreciated by the population.

Machinery, soil preparation, seed quality and the need to provide better care to the operators and other elements were topics discussed during the plenary.

Quivican won the venue for this meeting due to the results achieved in the present campaign, and the yields in the order of 20.1 tons per hectare.

According to Reinaldo Diaz Beltran, best producer of the demarcation, the achievement is the result of effort and dedication and to give the crop what it needs in the right time, including biological and chemical controls.

The most outstanding company resulted the 19 de Abril enterprise, as well as the William Soler Basic Unit of Cooperative Production, which made Quivicán the leader municipality.

The results equally distinguished as best CPA, Batabano’s Ciro Redondo, state farm El Violento, belonging to the Company Nazarene in San José de las Lajas and the Venancio Núñez Cooperative Credit and Service, in Guines.

The plenary was a space for reflection and debate, where the directors of all agricultural enterprises in Mayabeque, responsible for planting potatoes, and workers of these entities, were present alone with producers, party leaders and other guests.
