Mayabeque, Cuba_ Products such as tomatoes, aubergines, peppers and melon, obtained at the Liliana Dimitrova Institute of Horticultural Research in Mayabeque, are highly demanded in hotel facilities in the country.

The commercialization of these varieties in the national market makes it possible to substitute imports, promote exports of disease-resistant products and generate foreign currency, particularly in the agrifood sector.

Master Elda Padrón, director of scientific and technical services of the Institute, explained that these plants with multiple properties are part of the culinary culture of other nations, hence the level of demand to make them available to foreign tourists, in addition to the benefits achieved from the economic point of view.

This reduces annually the purchase of these products, equivalent to 10 million pesos, because the production meets the needs in hotels and store currency collectors where they sell fresh condiments.

The production of quality flowers and seeds is other of the main lines of work at the Liliana Dimitrova Institute of Horticultural Research in Mayabeque where they work to introduce the technology for the production of cut flowers and quality seeds.
