Mayabeque, Cuba_ The municipality of Jaruco exhibited by the end of November of the current year an infant mortality rate of zero per every thousand births, according to Yudmila Díaz, head of the Statistics department at the Noelio Capote polyclinic in this locality, the digital site of Radio Jaruco publishes.

More than 200 infants were born during this period from which 10 were reported with low weight that are being cared by pediatricians, and in the the Doctor and the Nurse Family offices, a program created by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro in 1984, with the new conception of bringing primary and preventive care to all parts of the country.

The challenge of Jaruco Public Health professionals is to improve the care for pregnant women and women of childbearing age in the obstetrical and community genetics consultations offered by this medical institution.

The follow-up of pregnant women considered to be at high risk and the effective implementation of the medical genetics are priorities of the Maternal and Child Program in Cuba, which guarantees comprehensive care for the mother and the child, despite the US blockade against the island.

The health specialists in Jaruco dedicated the Latin American Medicine Day to Fidel, for his fight for the well-being of the peoples of the world.
