Mayabeque, Cuba__ A total of 400 hectares of land were planted of potato in Melena del Sur, as part of the 2017 cold season.

According to Alejandro Fraga Curbelo, deputy director in the Agricultural Enterprise of the territory, only 20 hectares were planted with national seed for this occasion and the rest used, is imported.

The season involves a total of eight productive forms, including six Basic Units of Cooperative Production (UBPC), one Agricultural and another of Credits and Services, in addition to the Urban Farm.

"As a novelty, it was rescued this year the planting by gravity at the UBPC Simón Rodríguez, where the private sector farmers Yeniet Pérez and Dunier Romero, took over the task. Precisely, this entity has the greatest role in the campaign when planting 95 hectares", Fraga Curbelo explained.

The executive assured that there is full guarantee regarding the technological package, as well as other inputs to successfully complete the harvest stage.

The farmers of Melena del Sur, expect to obtain 9,336.5 tons of the queen of the viandas and next month they must begin to collect the first 846.7, belonging to the national potato.
