Mayabeque, Cuba__ The yields of the tomato for the industry, in Quivicán, surpass the expectations, as result of the scientific and technical production linked to the favorable climatic conditions and the action of men.
At the end of February, the more than 1300 tons processed in the same stage of the previous year, will be left behind in the canning factory of the Agricultural Company 19 of April in this territory.
According to Heredio Gobin, the company's chief of production, the scientific project led by the researcher Julio César Hernández, from the Liliana Dimítrova Horticultural Institute, is influenced by the planting of the L-43 tomato variety obtained at that center, whose destination is its industrial processing.
Similarly, the delivery of producers belonging to the cooperative and state farmer sector is decisive. Gobin added that to date they have reached more than 2 tons of bean hectares of 1.1 planned.
In 2016 Quivicán was positioned as the most outstanding municipality of the province in terms of yield of the tuber. Both crops replace imports.
The task of gaining more presence of these crops in the markets of the municipality itself, since the main priority is the supply to the capital, is still pending.
