Mayabeque, Cuba__ Important projects that contribute to the food sustainability of the population take place in this province. In San José de las Lajas, for example, local farmers continue experiments aimed at achieving the desired goal of satisfying the food needs of the territory and, at the same time, promoting and contributing with the same objective in the other areas and provinces of the country, Radio Camoa publishes.
The Local Agricultural Innovation Program (PIAL in Spanish) is one of those pilot projects implemented in some farms with an experimental character and that addresses issues related to the search for greater productive efficiency to obtaining food products.
Likewise it favors the exchange with the Government and institutions linked to the science and research of dissimilar branches of the agricultural work, narrow the relations and channels of communication with the existing farmers and forms of production.
It also promotes information and collaboration networks among producers and authorities in the community. It also generalizes knowledge and disseminates the local development management that has been implemented, process in which the National Institute of Agricultural Sciences, INCA, plays an importan role because it functions as a sponsor for the rigor and scientific-technical level of its workers.
In this aspect also offers its potential the diversified cooperatives, which meet the essential requirements of its members and support the increase in the products of the family basket, as well as contributing to the centers of social and economic interest, as well as participating with their productions in the plans conceived in the substitution of imports and incentives of export.
In this praiseworthy mission has a significant role the projects oriented to the bovine development, incorporating centers of milk cooling and the producers dedicated to the ovine production that apply extensive, semi-extensive techniques and show encouraging results. Steps are also taken in cross breeding with a view to achieving superior breeds and superior quality.
An element to be taken into account by its importance is the animal food, which is not always easy to acquire by the complexities of the market and the high prices of the feed, reason why the innovation of local producers is imposed.
We observe how creative initiatives arise, planting hectares of plants that help feed the livestock. Among these are known the palmiche, kingrás, yucca and fodder, among others.
Our province is committed to demonstrating that every thin can be done with political will, discipline and creativity.
