Mayabeque, Cuba_ The cultivation of Solanaceae, a family of worldwide importance which includes potato, tomato, pepper and eggplant, has an impact on Cuban agriculture from the perspective of the Liliana Dimitrova Horticultural Institute of Quivicán.

This plantation is validated from 2012 in its areas and in some producers’ of the Island.

The variety is recommended for open field and gives possibility of planting all year round. It also encourages the fruits to be covered by the foliage, avoiding the sun beat, with a cycle of 161 days

Climate, salinity of soils and pests must be considered for their effectiveness, according to a bulletin from the scientific institute.

The summer eggplant has good results in areas of the Liliana Dimitrova and the Cooperative of Credits and Services (CCS) Nicomedes Corvo, both of the municipality of Quivicán and since 2002 with the peasant Pedro Ariel Beltrán. It is also present in the CCS Álvaro Reinoso Valdés, from Güira de Melena, Artemisa province.

The variety Larga de Verano appears in the official Register of commercials and it is registered by the Ministry of Agriculture.

The Liliana Dimitrova Horticultural Institute has distributed 82 kg of basic seed to the companies of the country in the last four years.

In the Forum of Science and Technology of the municipality in 2003 and 2005 they presented the crop, which reached the status of outstanding and mention at the provincial level.

The research was part of a thesis of the specialty of Horticulture titled: "Characterization of phenological, morphological, productive and post-harvest variables of two new lines of eggplant for open field", defended in November 2014 and appears in different publications.
