Mayabeque, Cuba__ The planting of more than 500 hectares of red mangrove to protect the coastal from sea erosion distinguishes the workers from the Mayabeque Agroforestry Company, Radio Rebelde publishes.

The greatest attention is focused in the marine strip of the municipalities of Batabanó, Melena del Sur and Güines, as part of the project Manglar Vivo for the protection of the environment.

The director of production of the Agroforestal Company of the province, the engineer Felipe Cárdenas Crespo emphasizes that the coastal littoral predominates among the most deteriorated of the country.

Besides planting, we thinned plantations, trails against fire, cleaning of canals and phytosanitary control to strengthen forest areas, Cárdenas Crespo considers.

The work of reforestation includes other agro technical actions to compensate the degradation of the flora by the scourge of hurricanes and fires.

The official said that they offer importance to planting, but also to the restoration of forests. In this sense, plantations with several years of existence improve and contribute to the ecosystem with new seedlings.
